PROFILE OF DR KINGSLEY CHIEDU AMIBOR
Dr. Kingsley Chiedu Amibor is a distinguished pharmacist, healthcare leader, academic, and advocate for excellence in pharmacy practice in Nigeria.
He is a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN), Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (FPCPharm), and Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (FNAPharm). He is currently an Unofficial Member of the Board of Fellows, and was previously an Unofficial Member of PSN.
Dr. Amibor began his career at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), later had some experience with local pharmaceutical manufacturing, before transitioning to the hospital sector. He rose to become Deputy Director of Pharmaceutical Services and a pioneer Consultant Clinical Pharmacist at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State.
As Past National Chairman of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN), he championed transformative reforms that reshaped hospital pharmacy practice in Nigeria. His landmark achievements include:
– Gazetting of consultancy pharmacy approval in collaboration with stakeholders.
– PSN’s adoption of Pharmaceutical Care as the benchmark for Pharmacy practice, effectively replacing window dispensing.
– Aggressive pursuit of specialization for pharmacists, in collaboration with WAPCP.
– Securing government approval for the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programme in Nigeria.
On the policy arena, Dr. Amibor represented PSN in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with Government, alongside other colleagues, that resulted in the increase of Hazard Allowance for health care workers from ₦5,000 to the current ₦32,000 monthly.
A respected voice in pharmacy media and prolific writer, he is a Pharma journalist and Pioneer Editor-in-Chief of the AHAPN Journal, which he set up. He is also an author with over 30 publications in local and peer-review journals.
Upon retirement from public service, Dr. Amibor has devoted himself to academia, mentorship, and capacity building, nurturing the next generation of pharmacy students for frontline healthcare roles.
He is also an Evangelist, committed to spreading the good news of the Kingdom of God. He is a multiple award recipient, for his contributions to pharmacy and humanity. He has attended several courses in leadership and management within and outside the country.
Pharm Chiedu Amibor FPSN currently serves as Chairman of the BOF-PSN Drug and Substance Abuse Committee, and is the driving force behind the forthcoming BOF-PSN Webinar.
