Fresh leadership has been put in place across key departments, committees and units at the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) as the hospital moves to strengthen its operations after the expiration of the tenure of interim officials.
The appointments took effect on Wednesday when the hospital management formally inaugurated the new officials at its premises. The exercise follows the conclusion of the tenure of those who had managed the various units since the teaching hospital began operations.
Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, said the decision to constitute substantive leadership was taken to improve the hospital’s efficiency and sustain quality service delivery to the public.
He explained that the tenure of the interim heads ended on June 30, making fresh appointments necessary to ensure the hospital’s administrative system continued without interruption.
Ojo told the newly inaugurated officials that leadership should be seen as an opportunity to serve rather than a position of superiority, adding that they would be expected to remain accountable in carrying out their responsibilities.
He also announced that the hospital had introduced a SERVICOM platform to strengthen engagement with patients and other members of the public. According to him, the platform will help the management obtain feedback and identify areas where services can be improved.
The CMD also addressed reports that some workers inherited from the Ondo State Government had been deliberately excluded from employment by the teaching hospital.
He said the claim was untrue, explaining that the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the state government was based on a take-off establishment approved by the Federal Civil Service, which fixed the maximum number of employees the hospital could engage at the commencement of operations.
Ojo added that the biodata of eligible members of staff had already been captured, while a mop-up exercise would be carried out to accommodate those who missed the earlier registration.
