The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has approved an increase in the admission quota for Novena University’s Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programme following a verification and monitoring visit to the institution’s Faculty of Pharmacy.
The approval was conveyed in a letter signed by the Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharm. Ibrahim B. Ahmed, after the council assessed the faculty in its capacity as the statutory regulator of pharmacy programmes in the Nigerian university system.
According to the council, the decision followed significant improvements in the faculty’s physical infrastructure and human resources, prompting the approval of an increase in the programme’s admission quota to 120 students.
The council said the development would create more opportunities for prospective pharmacy students and supports the Federal Government’s directive on expanding the training of healthcare professionals across the country.
Reacting to the approval, the Vice-Chancellor of Novena University, Prof. Godwin Nduka, expressed appreciation to the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria for its supervisory role and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to programmes and projects that promote national development.
Nduka said the university would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening manpower development, in line with his earlier call for private universities to complement government efforts in producing skilled professionals.
The Pharmacy Council’s approval followed its assessment of the university’s Faculty of Pharmacy, where it expressed satisfaction with the level of improvements in facilities and personnel that support the training of pharmacy students.
