The state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has received praise from the administration of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH), Ondo, for approving the increased Professional Table Allowance and Specialist Allowance for healthcare personnel under the CONMESS and CONHESS compensation structures.
Prof. Olumide Gbala, the hospital’s chief medical director, signed a statement praising the governor’s decision, calling it a historic step that has greatly raised worker morale and enhanced healthcare delivery.
Ondo State is now the first state in the South-West and one of the first in the nation to implement the improved welfare package for healthcare workers, he continued.
The CMD claims that UNIMEDTH has seen the largest influx of specialists in its eight-year existence as a result of the enhanced welfare package, which has already started drawing consultants and other highly qualified healthcare workers from all across the nation.
Citing the establishment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), an increase in internship possibilities, and the permanent hiring of more than 100 hospital security staff, he also praised Aiyedatiwa’s consistent commitment in the health sector.
A 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner, a 160-slice CT scanner, a 3D digital mammography system, a 4D ultrasound machine, a digital X-ray system, super-specialty theatre equipment, endoscopy, ophthalmology, and Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) equipment, among other modern medical equipment, were also acknowledged by the hospital management.
After officials from the equipment supplier, JNCI Group, recently visited the hospital for final technical evaluations, the head of UNIMEDTH revealed that the equipment’s installation will shortly begin.
In the statement, Gbala emphasized the hospital’s plans to start a Neonatal Nursing Training Program in partnership with the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, the ongoing improvement of neonatal services to achieve Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care status, and the relocation of the Ophthalmology Department to a newly constructed facility.
Additionally, he recognized the governor’s support for maternal and child healthcare through the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) Program and the Abiyamo Safe Motherhood Scheme, which offer expectant women free Caesarean section and delivery services.
The management applauded Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to building contemporary residential housing for resident physicians within the teaching hospital, characterizing the initiative as a significant step toward enhancing emergency healthcare delivery and bolstering specialized medical training.
The management thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to changing healthcare delivery in Ondo State while reiterating its commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered healthcare.
