Address by the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) on
World Pharmacists Day🎈🎉
Distinguished guests, fellow pharmacists, partners in healthcare, ladies and gentlemen.
Today, as we gather to observe World Pharmacists Day, we anchor ourselves on a theme that resonates with urgency and purpose: “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.”
This year, FIP calls us to reflect on our indispensable role in building sustainable health systems especially in times of economic strain, rising demand on services, and complex challenges like antimicrobial resistance. Pharmacists are more than dispensers of medicines; we are caretakers of medication safety, bridges to communities, guardians of rational drug use, and partners in preventive health.
As the PSN President, I wish to draw attention to another milestone: DABO 2025, the 98th Annual National Conference of our Society.
The Theme & Vision of DABO 2025 is “Pharmacy Forward: Building a Future-Ready Workforce for Performance, Collaboration & Transformation.” We are inviting every pharmacist and stakeholder to align with this vision so that our profession does not merely respond to current demands but anticipates and shapes what’s coming.
Among the sub-themes are “Pharmacy in the Digital Age – Innovation, AI and the Future of Healthcare”; and “A Multidimensional Approach to Combating Drug Abuse & Misuse in Nigeria: A Road Map”. These are not just subjects for discussion, they are strategic fronts where we must make measurable progress.
During the conference,
• We will feature strategic panel discussions, including policy implications for drug security (the “5+5 Policy”), ensuring sustainable access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable medicines, and enhancing interprofessional collaboration in hospital pharmacy practice.
• Industry‐academia partnerships will be spotlighted so we can scale up research, innovation and local manufacturing.
• We expect the presence of Pharmacy elders, leaders from regulatory bodies, academia, industry, government officials, and international partners. Their perspectives and roles will give shape to our discussions and commitments.
DABO 2025 will be held at the Convocation Arena, Bayero University, Kano (New Site), from 3rd to 8th November 2025. We are grateful to our partners, the Kano State government, Bayero University leadership, sponsors, and every pharmacist for the support thus far.
What I ask of all partners and colleagues is to begin planning now. Make DABO 2025 a priority in your calendars, your institutional agendas, and your budgets.
Think of ways you can contribute: as speaker, panelist, sponsor, exhibitor, or mentor.
Use the WPD 2025 theme “Think Health, Think Pharmacists” to drive your work in the days leading up to the Conference; in community outreach, policy advocacy, innovation, and Pharmacy practice.
Fellow pharmacists, let us seize this moment, not only to celebrate our contributions but to commit ourselves to growth, to transformation, to being agents of change in healthcare in Nigeria. If we truly “think pharmacists,” then together, we can make health systems stronger, more equitable and more resilient.
Congratulations to all Pharmacists and Happy World Pharmacists Day. May DABO 2025 be our turning point.
