The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, has officially commissioned its new House Officers’ building, a development aimed at alleviating accommodation difficulties for junior doctors.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, ARD President Dr. Niyi Isaiah Oyetunji described the event as a landmark achievement for the association, noting that it was “borne out of our association’s sincere desire to alleviate the accommodation challenges faced by our house officers, many of whom come from outside Osun State.”
Oyetunji revealed that the project was initiated several years ago and has passed through different phases under successive administrations. He explained, “the vision for this building was first conceived during the tenure of Dr. Omoniyi,” adding that while the project faced delays, it benefited from collective ownership and persistence over time.
The ARD president commended former leaders for sustaining the initiative through various stages, highlighting the contributions of Dr. Kushoro, Dr. Nana Fayowole, Dr. Anthony Anuforo, and Dr. Enesi, acknowledging their “resilience, leadership, and steadfast belief in this dream.”
He also praised the building committees for their role in realising the project, noting that their “diligence, creativity, and unwavering commitment transformed this vision into the beautiful structure we now behold.”
Oyetunji extended gratitude to the immediate past Chief Medical Director, Dr. A. Adetiloye, describing him as a key supporter of the association. According to him, Dr. Adetiloye “shared in our vision and worked closely with us to bring the Doctors’ Village to life,” with the newly commissioned block forming part of the ongoing expansion.
He further acknowledged the hospital management, emphasising that their support created the “enabling environment that made this accomplishment possible.”
Reflecting on the significance of the new facility, Oyetunji said the building represents more than bricks and mortar, calling it “a symbol of our collective strength, unity, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of ARD OAUTHC.” He expressed hope that the facility would serve young doctors for years to come, adding, “May this building serve generations of young doctors and continue to stand as a reminder of what is possible when purpose meets persistence.”
