
…Seek collaboration in preventing use of drugs in enhancing performance
The Chairman, along with members of the Bayelsa State Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention and Rehabilitation Committee (BADAPARC) paid a courtesy call on Hon. Daniel Igali, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Sports Development today at his office in Yenagoa.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the Committee with the Honourable Commissioner and to consider areas of collaboration in preventing the use of drugs and substances by sportsmen in enhancing performance. Dr. Owonaro who spoke extensively on the dangers of using drugs, shared plans and strategies to be adopted by the Committee in discouraging their use by athletes, in line with the assured agenda of His Excellency Governor Douye Diri and his amiable Deputy Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in ensuring that the people of Bayelsa maintain good health and fitness at all times.
The Honourable Commissioner, in his response, assured Dr. Owonaro and his team that, the Ministry is ready to collaborate with the Committee. He further requested that, the Committee considers organising a training and enlightenment program for staff of the Ministry and all sportsmen.
