The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has appealed to the government and stakeholders in the healthcare sector to extend greater support to community pharmacists in their efforts to deliver quality healthcare, safeguard lives, and strengthen public health across the nation.
Addressing journalists at a press conference to mark the commencement of Pharmacy Rx Emblem Month in October, the National Chairman of ACPN, Ezeh Igwekamma, emphasized that the initiative reinforces the vital contribution of community pharmacists to the health and well-being of Nigerians.
Igwekamma explained that the globally recognized Rx emblem, symbolizing trust, professionalism, and healing, stands for safe access to authentic medicines and expert pharmaceutical care. “By dedicating this month to the Rx emblem, we are showcasing our community pharmacy premises as unique sanctuaries where patients and the public can confidently access genuine medicines, professional pharmaceutical care, and comprehensive healthcare services,” he said.
He further stressed that community pharmacies go beyond the mere dispensing of drugs, describing them as essential health hubs within neighborhoods that offer professional guidance, preventive health services, and patient counseling.
Highlighting the growing menace of counterfeit and substandard medicines, Igwekamma noted that the Rx emblem serves as “a beacon of assurance and authenticity,” helping patients identify trusted centers for safe and reliable healthcare. He disclosed that ACPN will leverage the month-long observance to educate the public that every pharmacy displaying the Rx emblem represents a trusted center of excellence in healthcare delivery.
According to him, the initiative also seeks to strengthen the connection between pharmacists and their communities while underscoring their expanding responsibilities in managing chronic diseases, promoting preventive care, and supporting overall wellness.
“Community pharmacies are often the first point of contact for millions of Nigerians seeking health solutions,” Igwekamma said. “Let us use this month to boldly tell our story that community pharmacy remains the most accessible healthcare facility.”
