The event aimed to sensitize the public about hypertension and provide free blood pressure screenings. The walk commenced at May & Baker’s office on Sapara William Street, proceeding to Oba Akran, Mobil Roundabout, and Moshalasi Alhaja, with the first stopover for screenings. The walk continued to Pen Cinema, Agege under Bridge, and Oba Ogunji Road, culminating at Akilo Spare Parts Shops Lane and back to the starting point.
According to Pharm. Patrick Ajah, Managing Director of May & Baker, the company typically observes World Hypertension Day with a walk for life/hypertension awareness walk. However, this year, they chose to hold the event as part of their 80th-anniversary activities to give back to society. He emphasized May & Baker’s commitment to making a significant impact in the health sector, highlighting their involvement in vaccine management, antimalarial initiatives, and hypertension management.
Pharm. Ajah stressed the importance of knowing one’s family history, regular health checks, and a balanced diet to manage hypertension, a silent killer. He specifically warned about the “dangerous alliance” of hypertension and diabetes, urging individuals to monitor their sugar levels and blood pressure regularly.
In light of the recurring sudden deaths in the country, Pharm. Ajah advocated for regular medical check-ups, at least twice a year. Looking ahead, he assured that May & Baker would continue to grow and expand, doubling its capacity in the next three to five years and increasing production of other medicines. By the time the company reaches 100 years, it will be a remarkable achievement, he concluded.”
